After 26 years of law enforcement service, I am humbled, honored, and grateful to have been selected to serve as the 36th Chief of Police at the Nashua Police Department. I am surrounded by a great group of officers and a very talented Command Staff that I look forward to working with. I have always applauded the hard work, professionalism, and dedication the officer’s display on a daily basis.   Also by my side is a very talented civilian staff that is highly dedicated and works extremely hard. 

 

To the citizens of Nashua.  The Nashua Police Department has a long tradition of providing exceptional service to the citizens.  I look forward to carrying on the practices that have made the department successful, with also an eye to future ways to improve.  I know there are many unique challenges facing law enforcement today. I welcome these challenges.  We’ll address them with transparency and open communication.
 

Finally, I pledge to lead our department with honesty, integrity, professionalism, and transparency.  I will strive to keep Nashua, NH as one of the safest cities in the United States.   

 

Chief Rourke was born and raised in Lowell, MA.  Upon graduation Lowell High School Chief Rourke attended the University of Massachusetts at Lowell where he completed his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in 1995.  He was a 4 year varsity baseball player and Captain of the team in 1995. 

He was sworn in as a part-time police officer with the Milford, NH Police Department in 1995.  In November 1996 he was sworn in as a full-time Police Officer.  On November 30, 1998 Chief Rourke was sworn in as a full-time police officer in Nashua, NH.  For his first five years he worked as a patrolman.  On June 9, 2003 he was transferred to the Problem Oriented Policing Unit and worked for one year.  This unit was a plain clothes unit. 

On June 20, 2005 he was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Division where he worked as a Detective.  On February 5, 2007 he was transferred to the Narcotics Intelligence Division where he worked in an undercover capacity for the next two plus years.

On June 3, 2009 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was transferred to the Patrol Division where he worked for the next 3 years.

On February 20, 2012 he was transferred back to the Narcotics Intelligence Division as a Sergeant and worked as the first line supervisor for the next 2 years in an undercover capacity.

On October 20, 2014 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and remained in the Narcotics Division for the next 2 plus years.  On June 2, 2017 he was promoted to the rank of Captain and was transferred to the Patrol Division for the next 2 years.  On September 3, 2019 he was promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief of Uniform Operations for the next 2 plus years. On March 1, 2022 he was promoted to the rank of Chief of Police.

In his 26 years of Law Enforcement Chief Rourke has commanded many specialty units to include Dive/Recovery Unit, Clandestine Lab Commander, Bike Unit Commander, and Traffic Unit Commander.  Chief Rourke was one of the founding members of the Hillsborough South Superior drug court team. 

Chief Rourke currently serves on and participates in several non-profit Boards to include:

  • Board of Directors Family Promise
  • Board of Directors for Nashua Police Athletic League
  • Committee member for NH Congressional Awards
  • Chairman for the Nashua Community Conversation on Race & Justice
