HOW DO I OBTAIN A COPY OF A POLICE REPORT?
PLEASE CONTACT THE RECORDS DIVISION PRIOR TO COMING IN FOR A COPY OF ANY REPORT. WE WILL BE HAPPY TO CHECK IF THE REPORT IS COMPLETED AND IF THERE ARE ANY RESTRICTIONS FOR ITS RELEASE.
You may obtain a copy of an official Accident Report that the officer completed if you were an operator of one of the vehicles in the accident, or the owner of a vehicle involved in the accident, or an injured party, or an Insurance Company requesting on behalf of their clients, or Attorneys representing clients in a civil action. Accident Reports are obtained from the NH Department of Safety- Division of Motor Vehicles by completing Form DSMV 505 . - Accident Reports are considered part of a person’s driving history and is protected by law.
- You may obtain a copy of a Multipurpose Report Form involving an incident in which an officer completed an official report. Keep in mind that you may only have information that pertains to you! There may be information contained in the report that is considered privileged information and not considered public information. Also, a Multipurpose Report Form may only be released once the investigation has been closed out. Multipurpose Report Forms cost $5.00 and may be obtained during regular business hours.

WHAT IS A LETTER OF GOOD CONDUCT?
A “letter of good conduct” states that the requesting party has no criminal arrest record with the Nashua Police Department. Employers, housing authority, or a state/federal agency may require letters of good conduct. Other persons may not request a letter of good conduct on another’s behalf. The requesting party must make the request in person during regular business hours. If you have been arrested for a misdemeanor or felony as an adult person in Nashua, Records Division personnel will refer you to the Nashua District Court to obtain a copy of your “arrests & convictions.” If you have not been arrested as an adult person, you will be required to produce 2 forms of identification (one must be a photo ID) and fill out a request form. Once approved, a notarized letter will be prepared for you. The cost for a letter of good conduct is $5.00. Letters of Good Conduct may be obtained during regular business hours. Please note that individual criminal and driving histories are protected by law and are not public information.
HOW DO I GET A COPY OF MY ADULT CRIMINAL OR DRIVING RECORD COVERING THE ENTIRE STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE?
You may obtain your own criminal record or driving history from the State of New Hampshire by completing the appropriate form which may be provided by the Records Division. If you wish further information, you can always call the main number at State Police Headquarters at (603) 271-3636, and ask for criminal records or the motor vehicle department. There are fees involved in obtaining both a criminal record and motor vehicle record.
HOW MAY I RECEIVE A PISTOL PERMIT?
An application for a permit to carry concealed/loaded pistol/revolver may be obtained through the Records Division or directly from our web site for Nashua residents only. Complete the form in its entirety. You will be required to provide Identification verifying proof of residency. This will be included with your application. The process takes approximately 2 weeks, depending on the number of record checks required. The Records Division will call you with the status of the permit. The fee for a pistol permit is $10.00 and will last for four years. For persons living outside of the State of New Hampshire, the application process is handled through the New Hampshire State Police, Permits & Licensing Division in Concord, NH. Residents of towns/cities in New Hampshire but outside of Nashua are required to go through their local police department.
WHY DID I GET A TICKET FOR OVERNIGHT PARKING?
Nashua City Ordinance prohibits overnight parking between the hours of 12 midnight to 6:00 a.m. except in 2-hour blocks on any city street. This ordinance is in place year-round, not just in the winter. If you need to park your vehicle on the street overnight, please call the Nashua Police Department at (603) 594-3500 by 9 p.m. on the evening of the parking request. The Communications Technician will gather the required information, which includes the make of the vehicle, the license plate number and state of the issuance and the address at which the vehicle will be parked. This will be added to an overnight parking authorization list. Should an emergency arise after 9 p.m., please contact the Department to allow for arrangements to be made. If a snow emergency is in effect however or authorization is not granted, than any vehicle left on City streets during the prohibited hours for more than 2 consecutive hours shall be subject to a fine or possible towing.
HOW DO I OBTAIN A RESTRAINING ORDER?
Restraining orders are obtained from the Nashua District Court, Walnut Street Oval, Nashua, New Hampshire or the Hillsborough County Superior Court, 30 Spring Street, Nashua, New Hampshire during regular business hours, depending on your situation. Emergency Restraining Orders are obtained after regular business hours with the assistance of a Nashua Police officer. The Nashua Police Department will maintain active restraining orders on file until their expiration which is determined by the respective court. More information regarding domestic violence may be obtained through our Domestic Violence Unit or by contacting either one of the courts listed above.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BAIL SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN ARRESTED?
Once a determination of bail has been obtained for an arrestee, the person bailing the arrestee will be advised to have the appropriate cash and respond to the police station. Upon your arrival at the police station, you will be asked if you have the appropriate cash and the Detention Specialist will be notified. The Bail Commissioners do not work for the Nashua Police Department; they work for the Court. You will be told that the Bail Commissioner on duty will be paged and to have a seat. The Records Division cannot accept any money for bailing an arrestee.
CAN I OBTAIN THE NUMBER OF TIMES OFFICERS HAD TO RESPOND TO A SPECIFIC LOCATION?
Yes. A Daily Log Letter can be completed and lists the dates, call or control number assigned to the call, the type of call, the disposition and the officers who were assigned. Daily Log Letters are available to the general public based on a specific location within the City of Nashua. Daily Log Letters are done during regular business hours and cost $5.00. There are some restrictions, however, so it may be best to call the Records Division prior to coming in. Daily Log Letters are not prepared in advance.
HOW DO I OBTAIN A COPY OF MY ARREST INFORMATION IF MY CASE IS STILL PENDING BEFORE THE COURT SYSTEM?
The proper procedure is to obtain a Motion for Discovery from the Nashua District Court. Only the arrestee or representative can obtain the copies. Once a motion for discovery is obtained, you may respond to the Nashua Police Department between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, to receive the appropriate copies from our Legal Bureau. There are fees involved. Any questions regarding this procedure may be obtained through our Legal Bureau.
MY PROPERTY HAS BEEN SEIZED BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OR RECOVERED BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, HOW DO I GET IT BACK?
Please contact the Evidence Unit by email at: firstname.lastname@example.org to have property returned. PROPERTY WILL NOT BE RETURNED WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT. You may retrieve property during or after normal business hours buy MUST first schedule an appointment with the Evidence Unit. The following information MUST be provided in your email: name, date of birth, case number, telephone number and a brief description of the property you want returned. A valid identification is required at the time of your appointment. A court order will be required for the return of firearms or dangerous weapons. A Motion for Return of Firearms will need to be filed at the 9th Circuit Court, Nashua, Criminal Division, or the Court that order the seizure of the firearms.
